No, not again! Last weekend it was raining cats and dogs in Brighton when we were covering Sussex Beacon Half Marathon and although today the weather wasn’t biblical, it just had to rain again. However, we learned our lesson and found a nice (and dry!) place to snap the runners in the rain this time. We’re uploading some 400 free snaps for you now and hoping the rainy runs will be gone by spring… which is like… by tomorrow!
Today we are out shooting at Sussex Beacon Half Marathon. We covered it last year and couldn’t resist coming back again. The photos will be up by the evening once we finish our sightseeing – you know, the sea, the pier, seagulls and all that..
Update 1: It wasn’t exactly the best day for sightseeing (neither it was for taking photos or running). I am pretty impressed that our cameras are still working after all the water they’ve seen today and actually managed to snap quite a few decent photos. Lovely run before the Valentine’s day. Even though the race started an hour later than expected and we were freezing by that time it was still great fun. You could feel it in the air, you know.. that crazy little thing.. you could see that everyone was having a ball.

Today we covered Watford Half Marathon 2010. Although it was the longest race we covered this year it certainly seemed like the opposite. The runners were having so much fun it was hard to take photos while laughing and trying to keep the camera still. Check out a few snaps from the race below.

Just came back from SEAA XC Champs in Hampstead Heath. Great race, amazing supporters (even more impressive than last year). And by amazing I mean absolutely the loudest and most original supporters I have seen (heard) so far. Check out some 20 seconds of recorded action here: audioboo recording.

Unbelievable race, although hard to get to, it was totally worth the effort. I mean who would skip a race where the notes on the map say “This is a military training area. DO NOT TOUCH suspicious objects…”

Time
When we first started taking photos in races years ago it seemed that everyone is running for the fun of it, taking it easy, enjoying the views, waving and smiling to the camera. I don’t know when it started to change, but it had to happen pretty fast.
It’s nowhere near what it was these days, everyone is so busy, running somewhere, always late for everything even though they wear those ridiculously large watches. You’d think one can see the time on it half a mile away, but everyone just keeps on looking at them. All the time..
Okay, okay, enough ranting, it wasn’t exactly everyone, some of them looked like really enjoying this fine event – waving and smiling, sprint finishing and taking it easy…all good. But still, why look at those huge watches?
Amazing race. We covered “sister events” of the run – the Midsummer Munro half and Picnic Marathon last year and were seriously impressed, but this race was even more insane. Just think of it – it’s an “early” morning of 1st January, Bank Holiday, the temperature outside is -2°C, bottom of snowy and muddy Box Hill and around 300 people gathered to run one of the toughest courses there is…in fancy dress. Even though the thought of getting out of bed early on the first day of the year didn’t sound fantastic we just couldn’t miss it. And it was so worth it.

Who said there’s only one Santa? We’ve already seen and snapped at least 3000 of them this year.
The latest event we covered was a training session for a few hundred of them to get in shape in time for Christmas. It looks like they are doing great but I still hope it’s just one of them who visits us, wouldn’t be too excited to see them all sneaking through my chimney, however fast they are.
