GB Ultra Country to Capital
Hey, the first race to be covered in the new year! It sounded really good and I was very interested to see how people who can run 45 miles look like and (of course) take a photo or two of them.
Well well, got there at around 14:50 thinking we’re late for the show but it turned out we’re too early. Nearly 6 hours from the start and no one was here yet. We grabbed a cuppa and sat down on the canal path right in the middle of the would-be action to be ready for the crowd..and we waited..and waited..aaand Finally! Here’s the man! Hoorray!
And then the runner that got the attention from that 5-odd crowd at the finish line turns round just before the finish and runs back before I even press the shutter.. Turns out that was just an ordinary bloke running along the canal…I thought he didn’t look like somebody who has just done 45 miles.. (I was still expecting to see the Superman or at least someone looking like a Duracell bunny…). All of us laughing, still waiting for someone to come and cross that finish line.
And yes! Here he comes, straight into a crowd of tourists having no clue they’re standing right where imaginary finish-line is.. after elbowing his way through the crowd he gets there.. I’m shocked – he’s looks like an ordinary chap, takes a cuppa tea and sits down (I still can’t believe he did it. 45miles! I guess we all missed the Superman, I bet he finished an hour earlier).
It’s getting dark and after an hour and bit we call it day having snapped 4 runners. I guess we’ll be choosing the races a bit more carefully from now on..how about covering races with at least 42 runners..
